Winter Color Guard is an indoor performance art activity that is similar to theatrical dance productions, but utilizes flags, and other twirling apparatuses to take the performance art aspect to a more visually intense level. Winter Color Guard is an intensely physical activity, and is called "Sport of the Arts" by its governing organization, WGI (Winter Guard International).
Students in the Irondale Winter Color Guard practice three times a week beginning in December, and perform weekly in competitions all around Minnesota in February and March, culminating with the WGI (Winter Guard International) Championships in early March. Members of the Irondale Color Guard attend Irondale, Mounds View and Saint Anthony High Schools.
