1. PARENT MEETING THIS THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 7:00 P.M.
The Band Boosters Board is hosting a parent meeting on Thursday, April 23, in the band room. Marching Band staff will give an overview of the new show concept for the 2009 season. You can also get advance information about next week’s Info & Registration Night. The Board will also unveil the 2009 Season Budget and answer our questions.
Parent Meetings take place the 3rd Thursday of every month.
Be sure to mark May 21 on your calendar – it’s the annual Parent Picnic. The picnic is a fun and causal way to meet other band parents and especially to welcome parents of kids new to marching band this season. While the kids are rehearsing, parents can enjoy a picnic dinner, joy the Minnesota spring weather outdoors prior to the meeting. After the picnic, stay for the parent meeting. Watch for more details…but please mark the date on your calendars now!

4. THE UNIFORMS ARE BACK!!! (By Paula Biessener and Sue Howe)
The Irondale Marching Knights uniforms are cleaned, pressed and ready to be fitted. We will be fitting the captains first so be watching for times and dates on the bulletin board outside the band room. The uniform moms are looking for one or two others that are gifted with sewing abilities. Although we try our best, there is a need for a person or persons who are adept at more technical skills with the needle and thread (i.e., fitting in zippers, adjusting waistbands, things of this sort). If there is any one out there who would like to join our tailoring crew (or even act as a consultant), that would be most helpful!
We will also be needing people to assist in the hemming detail after the fittings. Stay tuned for more info regarding this in the next issue.
Contact Paula Biessener (651-80-3480) or Sue Howe (651-765-0233) if you have those gifts and are willing to share them!

6. VALLEYFEST SHOW IN WEST DES MOINES - OCTOBER 11 (By Jason Twaddle)
Several boosters travel to the Valleyfest Show that takes place at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. Some boosters get a hotel room in Des Moines and some drive home after the show. We are setting up a page on the new website where parents can communicate if they would like to carpool, etc. If you are interested in staying overnight, you may wish to check hotels in the areas of West Des Moines, IA and Clive, IA, a nearby city. With all the bands that attend this show, hotels in nearby towns fill up fast.
At this time we don’t have details about the time the show starts or when Irondale performs, but we can tell you it is an evening show that will probably last until 10:30 pm.
Preliminary information is available at http://valleybands.org/index.htm, including ticket info and directions. Boosters may wish to visit their website to check for updates as the event gets closer.

7. PHOTO DAY INDIVIDUAL & GROUP PHOTOS (By Craig Burlingame)
I would like to first thank Mr.Sucha and the staff for allowing Dayton and me the opportunity to set up and offer group and individual photos of the students after the large group picture was done. This was a great opportunity to catch the kids while they were still in uniform and get sectional, as well as individual photos, for everyone to see and use.
As you may know, the old photo site is down, but with the holidays coming up, and some of you saying you wanted to maybe use these photos for cards, I am putting them up on a temporary site for access. This is not a full powered website, but rather one I use for posting my own photography. As you look through them, you may notice there could be several pictures of one student, and only one of another. This is only due to the fact that I edited out the ones that did not turn out due to blinking, or were too light or dark.
The website is http://photos.tarfun.net. There is an album titled "IHSMK Photo Day". In order to see this album, you must login in as "ihsmk" (without the quotes) and the password is "echoes" (without the quotes).
You can download the photos by adding them to your shopping cart and then downloading them as a zip file to your computer where you can print them, put them on a cd and take them to a Wal Mart or wherever, and use them on cards or how ever you want. As I mentioned earlier in this note, this web site is not very powerful, so it may run slower than the other one did, but it will let us get things rolling on the photo day pictures for now. This is temporary as well. I cannot put the weekly show pictures up here and leave them since this server does not have the capacity to handle that. I will be leaving these up until the middle of December and then pulling them. I will still have the pictures which we can put up on the new server when something is decided.
I have the individual photos up now, and will have the group photos up by end of the week. If you have any questions, or comments, regarding these pictures, please let me know at cburling@... or you can call me at 763-717-1239.

8. IHSMK 2008 ROSTER NOW AVAILABLE (By Jason Bonnickson)
The 2008 Roster has been uploaded to the new website (go to http://www.ihsmk.org/node/89). (The roster is also available at the Yahoo Groups website.). Anyone planning to carpool to Des Moines or St. Louis, here is an easy way to locate parent names and phone numbers.

9. BOA INFORMATION (By Jason Twaddle)
Parents going to St. Louis: Consider staying at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront hotel where a block of rooms has been reserved for October 16-18:
Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront
315 Chestnut Street
St. Louis MO 63102
http:// stlouisriverfront.hyatt.com
Reservations - call 800-233-1234; ask for the reservation set up under “Music for All."
Room rates are $99 per night plus tax. If the reservation agent says that the $99 rate is not available, contact Mike Dressel (314-342-4614) at the Hotel and he will get you set up at the group rate and add more rooms to the reservation. (If you have any problems with this contact Jason Twaddle 651-490-3138 or jaytwaddle@...)
The Hyatt is a Scrip participant and contributes 9% back to the band (and your account). Talk with Renae Mottaz to order Hyatt Scrip cards in advance or place your order on the Great Lakes Scrip site and Renae will deliver it to you. Scrip orders for use in St. Louis must be placed before October 9.
Post your St. Louis Travel Arrangements on the Website
If you are going to St. Louis, please post the following information at the “Goin 2 BOA” link on the new website:
· Name(s)
· home and cell phone numbers
· how are you getting there [driving, flying, carpooling (with who)]
· estimated arrival date and time
· where staying, would you like to share a hotel room.
· do you want to carpool, share a hotel room and any other pertinent information.
We will take your information and create a "database" of sorts listing all of the people going to St. Louis so we can be touch with each other when we are there. This database will be available to all boosters registered on the website.
Do you need or wish to carpool? Share a hotel room? Or want to caravan? Post that request also, and look for other posts for someone you can hook up with.

10. THOUGHTS ABOUT BOA (By Barb Trostad-Peterson)
What has worked well for us in the past is to leave the Twin Cities after work on Thursday and drive part way to St. Louis, say to Cedar Rapids or Mount Pleasant. (Mount Pleasant is probably the preferred overnight, rather than Cedar Rapids, due to this summer's floods in Iowa.) That way we will be at the competition in time for Friday's afternoon prelims.
Our preferred route is as follows--it has worked well for us and is pretty direct with decent highways. You just need to watch those road signs carefully! Allow 9.5 hours for driving and factor in your stops accordingly. The trip is about 577 miles from Irondale.
Take I-35W toward Albert Lea and Clear Lake, IA.
At Clear Lake take the US18 exit 190 and head east toward Mason City and Charles City
Take IA27/US 218 southeast toward Cedar Falls and Waterloo.
Follow I380 south (aka IA 27, US 20 east) toward Cedar Rapids..
Continue on IA 27/US 218 south toward Mt. Pleasant.
Take US 61 toward Hannibal, MO (Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens' town)
Merge onto I-70 East toward St. Charles.
Take the Broadway exit 249C toward the convention center and Edward Jones Dome. The Dome is at 901 N. Broadway.
Parking in downtown St. Louis is fairly expensive. Be aware that the Hyatt charges $17 per day to park. I believe that the Hampton at the Arch charges $10 a day for guests.
Tickets for the BOA/Music for All St. Louis Super Regional may be purchased as a combo or separately. Take a look at Music for All's website (www.musicforall.org) for full details, including what bands are scheduled to compete while Irondale is there. MFA sells tickets separately for Friday prelims ($17 each), Sat. prelims ($19) and Saturday finals ($23 or $28); or you may purchase combo tickets at some savings ($48). Whether or not Irondale makes finals, it's still very entertaining to watch the top competing bands on Saturday night. All in all over 50 bands are scheduled to compete from such states as Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Ohio, Minnesota, Colorado, Mississippi, Illinois, Missouri and Georgia!
Things to do in St. Louis! The Gateway Arch is certainly worthwhile. You can visit the grounds, tour the museum, take a "car" up to the top of the arch, and learn about how this engineering feat was built. There is also an historic courthouse nearby, horse-drawn carriage rides, and the incomparable Missouri Botanical Garden (my interest in plants showing here) is easy to get to using public transportation if you don't want to drive there.

11. ORDER SCRIP AND FUNDRAISE ALL THE WAY TO ST. LOUIS & HOME AGAIN! (By Renae Mottaz)
Good News for all you band parents going to St. Louis and staying at the Hyatt Riverfront! Scrip can be ordered for the Hyatt and it comes with a 9% rebate! Plan ahead and get your scrip ordered! Also, if you are driving, stock up on gas cards (BP stations in MN, Iowa and Missouri, Holiday stations in MN and Iowa.) and restaurants. You could actually earn money as you travel down to see the band at BOA!! See Renae Mottaz to order your Scrip or if you have any questions. If you prefer send an email to rmottaz@.... The last day to order Scrip for BOA is October 9.
***********************************************
12. CAFÉ PRESS STORE (By Susan Abbott)
Another option for boosters to buy apparel is at our Cafe Press store, www.CafePress.com/imkBandStuff
You order right from the Cafe Press site, and your items are shipped directly to you.
We have shirts, hats, bumper stickers, mugs, and lots more! If you'd like IMK logo'd items that you don't see in the IMK Band Stuff store, let me know and I will create something for you -- as long as it's an item that's available through Cafe Press!
Also, if you'd like your apparel items personalized (your name on the back, for example), just e-mail me and I will create a custom item for you and put it in the store for you to buy.
Questions? Susan Abbott (susanabbott@...)

If you have any questions, or comments, regarding these pictures, please let me know at cburling@qwest. net or you can call me at 763-717-1239.

9. BOA INFORMATION (By Jason Twaddle)
Parents going to St. Louis: Consider staying at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront hotel where a block of rooms has been reserved for October 16-18:
Hyatt Regency St. Louis Riverfront
315 Chestnut Street
St. Louis MO 63102
http:// stlouisriverfront. hyatt.com
(If you have any problems with this contact Jason Twaddle 651-490-3138 or jaytwaddle@msn. com)

Take a look at Music for All's website (www.musicforall. org) for full details, including what bands are scheduled to compete while Irondale is there.
